It’s apparent from minute one that Bayonetta’s controls are more streamlined than DMC’s, especially in the early days. Sure, once you got the hang of it, DMC1 and DMC3 offered much more in terms of mechanics, but from a pickup and play mentality, Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are the surefire winners.

Bayo 1 levels are insanely long (highest is 14 verses iirc) and often require a guide to find all of the encounters. Bayo 2 eases up on the difficulty quite a bit. Most DMC missions take around 3-5 encounters to clear, and only the Combo and Orb scores at the end of the mission will potentially penalize you for skipping optional encounters.

DMC just gives you the combat (the best part) simply whilst bayonetta coats it with nine gazillion layers of weird wacky crap like insta death QTEs, bike sections and water sections. maybe you just prefer to have those layers on whilst others dont and would rather focus on the actual combat, the main meat of the game.
